Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Nabs here :)

Last week I treated myself to a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts (I promise I didn't eat all of them on my own, I'm not that greedy...)

I bought the above box of a dozen doughnuts for £11.45. The pre-packed box which I think includes the twelve best selling doughnuts is £10.45 but I didn't even look at what doughnuts they had in that box. I knew which ones I wanted and so for an extra £1 I got to choose the doughnuts (the extra £1 is worth it!) Though if I had known that the Chocolate Fudge Cake doughnut (the two doughnuts in the middle of the bottom row) was going to be literally all chocolate (inside as well as outside) I wouldn't have chosen it. I love chocolate but I found it extremely bitter.

My favourite Krispy Kreme doughnut has to be the Chocolate Dreamcake, which is filled with chocolate sauce; it's the one that I've eaten again and again. In the past I have often craved other flavours such as the Original Glazed doughnut. I remember last December when I really really wanted one (the craving was so strong that I wasn't going to settle for an ordinary ring doughnut!) I went all the way to Kingston just so I could buy one (there's a Krispy Kreme on the top floor of the Bentalls store). Okay that wasn't the reason I went to Kingston but eating the doughnut was the highlight of the day.

You can get Krispy Kremes in some Tesco stores, I've bought my beloved Chocolate Dreamcake in a few, but there is something about going to an actual Krispy Kreme shop or stall and seeing all the lovely doughnuts on display. It's almost magical seeing all the different colours, the different flavours.

Sammii taking over :)
Here are a few pictures of the doughnuts I have bought from Krispy Kremes. Haha yes, and if you don't know it by now, me and Nabz do eat alot!

This is by far my favourite Krispy Kreme doughnut!  The Strawberries and Kreme!- It has a strawberry and cream sauce filling inside!

I have nooo idea what this one was! But it looks pretty still! :)

Creme Brulee Doughnut

 Apple Cinnamon Doughnut

Lemon Meringue Pie

Cookie Crunch- I don't like this one, I found the chocolate very dense.

Enjoying a Pistachio Krispy Kreme Doughnut with a cuppa!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Inspired Afternoon Tea

How better to relax than a nice spot of afternoon tea? Especially if that afternoon tea is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired! Me and Nabs loved the idea- lets go on a time warp and travel back to the 90's!

This afternoon tea was held at the One Adwych Hotel. Upon arriving we were greeted and shown to the front desk where we were shown to our table.  It was a nice little touch to have the menus with pictures of the families!

First up were the sandwiches!
The vegetarian option
Cucumber and Chive Creme Fraiche on Wholemeal Bread
Smoked Salmon and herb creme fraiche
Caramelised Onion and Goats Curd Tart
Leak and Stilton Quiche
Beef and Horseradish on Onion Bread
Egg Mayonnaise with Watercress
Cheese
Time for the sweets! :)
Cocoa Bean Financier
Scone with Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam
Cinnamon Swirl Brioche
Candy Floss- they had a secret flavour seasonaly which we were left to guess what flavour it was!
Gingerbread Pops
Golden Chocolate Egg Filled with Vanilla Cheesecake and Mango Puree
Chocolate Caramel Milk (Sammii's favourite- you can't go wrong with milkshake and the little glass bottle with the straw just took me back in time)

Nabs here :)

As you can see the sweet selection looked pretty impressive, just as something in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory ought to be! Some didn't taste as great as they looked: I wasn't too fond of the Gingerbread Pop as I found it too dry. My favourite had to be the Golden Chocolate Egg (a combination of chocolate, cheesecake and mango, can it get any better?!)

One thing I would suggest (and this goes for all afternoon teas), if you can only eat Halal Meat and are not a vegetarian, don't say that you want the vegetarian option. Definitely specify (whether you're booking online or via phone, they usually give you space when booking online to add extra details regarding what you can or can't eat) that you can't eat meat unless it's halal but also say that you can eat fish. I made the mistake of saying I wanted the vegetarian option, and wasn't given the Smoked Salmon and Herb Creme Fraiche. I was really dissapointed as I love fish, especially Salmon so don't make the same mistake that I did! I was given a cheese sandwich instead :((

All in all we had a lovely afternoon; the staff were very helpful and the seating area was very comfortable. I went away wanting to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory which is my absolute favourite adaption of Roald Dahl's classic book. I didn't like the 2005 Tim Burton adaption with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, I found it too serious and a little creepy, seriously lacking the magic the 1971 adaption had!

More Afternoon Tea posts to come :))

Dessert at Afters

Today I decided to treat myself and went to Afters in Tooting with a friend. Afters is an ice cream and dessert parlour and I have been a fan ever since it first opened but I've not blogged about it at all! Luckily I've kept pictures of nearly all the desserts I've tried there so I thought I would do one big blog which will look at all of those desserts.

What you see as you walk into Afters: ice cream in the refrigerator on the left side and the seating area on the right side, which you can just about make out from this picture. Afters also have an outside seating area which they open during the summer and when it gets really busy, but unfortunately I wasn't able to take a picture of this.
The Seating Area - comfy pink chairs!!
As you can tell from the above pictures there is a definite pink theme going on here: pink chairs, pink walls!!

Now onto the desserts!
What me and my friend had today:

Smartie Pants
Banana Split
I ordered the Smartie Pants sundae and my friend ordered the Banana Split.

The Smartie Pants sundae contained a scoop of strawberry ice cream, m&m's, skittles, 100s & 1000s as well as chocolate and strawberry sauce, it was like a rainbow of colours in the ice cream glass. The picture just doesn't do it justice!

The first spoonful I tasted was an explosion of different flavours, a mixture of strawberry ice cream, softly whipped ice cream and chewy skittles! By the time I got to the bottom of the glass where the 100s & 1000s were I was really full but I couldn't resist a spoonful or two of melted ice cream and 100s & 1000s. Mmm!!

Desserts that I've tried in the past:

Cakes

Strawberry Cheesecake
Oreo Cheesecake
Fudge Cake
Cake and Custard
Apple Crumble with custard

 Waffles

Waffles with whipped cream, marshmallows and a flake
Waffles with white chocolate sauce, ice cream and a flake

 Milkshakes and Juices

Kinder Bueno Milkshake no1 with whipped cream
Kinder Bueno milkshake no2 with whipped cream and marshmallows
Strawberry Sunset Juice

Cold Stone

Cookie Love

Sundaes

King Ferrero
Mr Whippy
Waffler
Minty Magic
Strawberry Surprise
Brownie Point no1

Brownie Point no2
Knickerbocker Glory

As you can see from the above pictures I am a regular customer at Afters, going there everytime I need my dessert fix. There are other desserts I've tried that I unfortunately don't have pictures of. These include the traditional Falooda, which is a cold drink made with rose syrup, vermicelli, tapioca or basil seeds, milk, jelly and ice cream.

I have tried so many different desserts at Afters that I wouldn't know where to start if you asked me what my favourite one is but if you're visiting Afters for the first time I recommend trying one of their sundaes! If you want something fruity try their Knickerbocker Glory or for something which has more chocolate try the Brownie Point!

Afters has branches in Tooting, Croydon, Walthamstow, Leyton, Ilford and Green Street.
